Verified Buyer | New York, New YorkResolved: Charged Incorrectly
Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with full refund. Called customer service.
I sent a message to the shopper that my order was out of stock but get the 3 color multipack instead. When he got here there were 2 multipacks in the bag. I kept them because I can always use ink and it was late. So this morning I open my email invoice and almost had a stroke.
I had been charged $168.29. It was for 2 yellow, 2 magenta & 2 multipacks. So I needed to figure out what was going on. Thats why I needed a phone number because I didnt want to wait for an email.
When I called the gentleman took a little bit to understand what I was saying. Then he says well you didnt get charged for all of that money because my credit card transaction was denied. Of course it would be!!! You just tried to char $168 instead of $32!!!!
I kept having to explain that I needed something in writing that they were reversing the charge. Finally he straightened it out in the computer. Then he puts me on hold and comes back to tell me that they have refunded the entire amount to my credit card. I wasnt sure I understood but they sent me an email that said I owed $86.22 and a second email saying that they have credited my original payment method for $86.22.
He informed me that due to the total confusion in several areas of my order that I was essentially getting my order for free. I was both surprised and happy about this resolution as you can imagine. I was sent emails confirming this and I am pleased with this outcome. I did explain that it was a good outcome for me but that the confusion should never have happened at all.
The representative agreed and said that he was sending it to another area to be looked at to find out what actually happened to make it so messed up. He asked if they needed clarification could they contact me and I said yes.

Preferred solution: The situation needed straightened out which they did. I just wanted it to be corrected but they actually refunded my money in full.
User's recommendation: Be very clear with your order, especially substitutions and then check your account and the invoice to make sure everything reflects the correct amount and items etc. If there is confusion contact them immediately and get it cleared up.

If there's any problems/glitches with the system, the burden of proof is on the shopper. Take screenshots and/or record your screen the entire time you are setting up your account if you're using a referral link from another shopper.
If you ever need to get in contact with instacart, you're only choice is the in-app chat support.
9 out of 10 of the support agents are so inexperienced and not trained that you won't likely find a resolution when you have a problem unless it is a much more common issue.
I have gone through a full investigation and explained my particular issue at least two dozen times to different support staff. Each time, they create a reference ticket so I won't have to explain it again to the next person, but that doesn't stop made from having to go through the entire explanation and process every single time.
*Heaven forbid if you're frustration shows to chat support, they may log you out of your account to end the chat without it reflecting poorly on them.
After the investigation was complete, and it was verified that there was a glitch in the system so the referral code did not get applied, (and it was verified that the shopper I referred met the referral bonus requirements), I was given a date that I would be paid. That date has come and gone and the most recent interaction with support has escalated the issue, which was supposed to have happened over 2 weeks ago. Be higher level support emailed me asking for screenshots of proof of using the referral link.
I provided screenshots of what I was able to put together and have yet to be contacted by them. But the most recent interaction said that I will be contacted within 72 hours, even though 2 weeks has already passed and they haven't contacted me.
And the worst part of it is that there is no way to get a hold of anybody. The phone number to contact them has been disconnected and support claims they have no contact information to provide.
The BBB does not get involved between employees and employers.
And working for instacart as a shopper is classified as self-employed, so the department of Labor doesn't get involved either. So that leaves you asking, who is out there to hold the company accountable.
Preferred solution: I would like to get the $250 referral bonus that I and the shopper that I referred earned. I am not asking for anything that I did not earn legitimately.
